new blog

So I decided it was a bit ridiculous that it's February 2011 and I was still posting to Couze 2011 or whatever it is, and I've created a new blog, called either Lillie's blog or www.blogfromlillie.com (I think). So from now, ALL my posts will be from that address or whatever it is that shows up in Google.

I refuse to try to figure out Facebook, which I don't trust.

Also, I refuse to Tweet all the time (although I have accounts on both Facebook and Twitter). They allow only 159 characters or something like that. Based on what I've read of late, I'm obsolete and old and a has-been. Blogs are sooooo yesterday... Tough.

Texas trip

So I came down to Texas to thaw out, and what happened? Freezing weather, wind, etc., etc. I brought some warmer weather clothes this time, at least, unlike the last time I came when it was seriously cold in Kentucky, and I came down here with nothing but long underwear, serious sweaters, Mary Ann's fur coat, etc., etc. Had to make a run to Chico's to buy some warm weather clothes.

But this time I brought my custom made "boots" from Easterling's in Fredricksburg to get Lloyd to fix them so I can actually wear them. It didn't occur to me that he was going to have to keep them and send them off to El Paso. That left me (Jeannette Sheridan went with me to Fredricksburg) with tennis shoes and sandals.

And I brought Mary Ann's fur coat to give to Jeannette, so she can have it made into a vest or something if she wants. It was never big enough for me, and I've worn it out, to boot; those little animals know a lot about staying warm. It was a good thing I had it, though; I wore it until I left it in Wimberley.

Goliad was chilly, but the area had warmed up a bit. My wool coat was enough...

I do love parts of Texas, though; gotta admit that I miss the live oaks. And the sky. And they've done wonderful things with the square in Goliad. It seems more alive than it has since the mid-sixties. There are three restaurants that actually seem to be doing okay; there is also a deli that is doing fine. Tim VonDohlen is restoring the soda fountain that used to be in the VonDohlen Pharmacy, remodeling the upstairs into an apartment or apartments or something...

And I also love the wide streets with the huge live oak trees in the middle of the road.

Daddy's/our house (the one we grew up in) seems to be in good shape. Not sure about the part of the farm we didn't sell. I do think they should drill for oil AND gas on the property. Not sure I trust any of the people around who either have put up fences or might put up fences; am fairly certain we'll end up losing some land. The only way to guard against this, though, is probably to go down there and build on it, which I don't think either Jonette or I plans to do.

Didn't go to the cemetery.

I've died

So just for grins I googled myself this morning. I am evidently still at BCTC; the information from the division directory that Paul Blankenship put up in 2006 is still online. That says something about the competence of the ITS folks at the college.

And, furthermore, it seems I died late in December 2010. I couldn't figure out where I lived, but there was clearly an obituary for me in some newspaper called the "Clarion".

Other things that showed up were not quite so surprising. There's stuff about me on David Tall's website, and the KITCenter stuff...

Martin is sick, wants breakfast. I want him to go to work today anyway. and leave me alone...

Groundhog Day

Evidently the official word is that we're going to have an early spring...I don't often say things like this but HOORAY!!! We have had to date two seriously nasty winters in a row (and yes, I LIKE bad weather, but it's be TOO MUCH and for FAR TOO LONG). This year it started far too early.

Today was particularly annoying; while we (thankfully) didn't get the blizzard that hit a great deal of the country, hey, we've had our share of ice, snow, etc., and this morning it was (miracle) in the upper 40's, the furnace wasn't running, at least not all the time, and then it dropped like a rock; you would have thought you were in south Texas, where, when it gets cold, it tends to do so in minutes rather than hours or days...

On top of which, Martin is sick, didn't go to work, and I spent most of the day trying to do paperwork I've been ignoring for about 4-5 months (or years, in some cases), in the den (which can be made more or less warm...). Martin, unfortunately, also spent most of the day there, as well; he insisted (and I confess I didn't fight very hard) on watching his usual soap, Days of our Lives, where unfortunately now they have some nincompoop pirating organs. Truly disgusting, even more so than usual...

My (ambitious) goal is to actually file our income tax returns ON TIME this year...we'll see. It may have been a decade (possibly more) since we did this...
